For the transformation of this existing garden in the centre of Munich, the design builds up on what is already there. The existing planting is retained to the maximum, while subtle interventions create a spatial coherence and a rhythm to the garden.
Existing and new elements are carefully woven together. Evergreen shrubs are selectively repositioned to strengthen the garden’s structure, while a series of existing and newly introduced elements create a subtle rhythm throughout the space. These interventions frame views towards different areas of the garden.
Groups of additional Azaleas are introduced throughout the garden, creating a botanical thread that connects the different spaces and reinforces the identity of the planting. Rather than imposing a new structure, the design reveals and reinforce the qualities already present in the garden.
The resulting landscape remains informal and evolving, offering a quiet setting in which existing and new elements coexist. The garden will receive a changing selection of artworks, allowing the experience of the space to evolve through time.
